Any advice on buying hearing aids?

Question by : Any advice on buying hearing aids?
My boyfriend is hard of hearing, not deaf and requires hearing aides in order to hear things. Since his insurance does not cover them and he is 24 he is looking to pay out of pocket for them and from we have been seeing they are very expensive. He has a job, but has been getting laid off lately and really does not have much money to spend, even while saving. He was under the impression that he was going to have to pay 5000 for a set but when I looked online I was finding the Phonak aids alot cheaper than that. Does anyone have any experience with purchasing aids online and what he has to do? I know he has to get a waiver and an exam from his doctor. Only reason we are looking now is because one broke and the other one is starting to go bad after he has had it for several years but needs them for his job.

if you are in the uk you might be able to get them free, see your gp. otherwise you cant buy them anywhere without a consultation as they are specially modified for your hearing loss. Any others would be very poor.
